BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, Dec 12 2023 – The OpenWallet Foundation (OWF), an open source project fostering collaboration across industries to create reusable building blocks for secure interoperable wallets, is thrilled to announce a new liaison relationship with the FIDO Alliance.
The FIDO Alliance is an open industry association that creates open standards for phishing-resistant user authentication (with passkeys) and secure device onboarding (FDO). The FIDO Alliance has more than 250 members worldwide from the identification and authentication ecosystem comprising many of the top influential tech, consumer, and service firms in the world; its standards are supported worldwide.
Through this liaison relationship, OWF and FIDO Alliance will explore synergies between FIDO standards and OWF’s open source projects, and possible areas of collaboration between the organizations’ memberships and working groups.
“As organizations work to develop secure and interoperable identity ecosystems, it’s important for us to identify ways FIDO standards can be leveraged for the necessary strong authentication component of digital wallets,” said David Turner, senior director of standards development at the FIDO Alliance. ”We recognize the value of open source initiatives such as OWF’s and look forward to working together to identify areas of collaboration.”
Hosted by Linux Foundation Europe, the OWF provides safe harbor for companies, non profits, and the public sector to create open source software for interoperable digital wallets as a joint effort. These agreements will foster the development of critical components to contribute towards this vision.
