OpenWallet Foundation Announces Mastercard as Premier Member

Another step towards driving digital wallet interoperability and innovation.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM –   The OpenWallet Foundation (OWF), an open source project advancing digital wallets and credentials by fostering collaboration across industries and between public and private sector, is proud to announce Mastercard as its newest premier member. Mastercard’s involvement further strengthens OWF’s mission to drive interoperability, innovation, and openness in the digital wallet ecosystem.

Hosted by Linux Foundation Europe, OWF provides a vendor-neutral space for companies, non-profits, and the public sector to collaborate on the development of open source software for interoperable digital wallets. Mastercard joins a group of stakeholders working to ensure secure, inclusive, and privacy-respecting wallet solutions for users around the globe.

Mastercard has long championed innovation and collaboration across the payments ecosystem and is deeply engaged in global efforts to ensure safe, seamless digital interactions. By joining OWF, Mastercard will contribute its extensive expertise to ongoing initiatives that aim to reduce fragmentation, improve interoperability, and foster adoption of open standards in the wallet space.

This milestone highlights OWF’s growing momentum as a collaborative initiative uniting public and private sector leaders in building foundational technologies for the next generation of digital wallets. As digital identity and payment systems continue to evolve, the importance of open source and cross-industry cooperation is more vital than ever.
